Finding the Right Insurance

Finding the Right Insurance

When it comes to finding the right insurance, it really depends on what you value. Many people look for the absolute lowest cost option. While cost is important, there are several other important considerations to make before choosing an insurance plan.

Claims Experience

Insurance is a promise to be there for you when the unexpected happens. Not all insurance companies are the same when comes to responding in your time of need. You’ll want to work with an insurance company that is responsive and fair. You can find claims ratings online or get some advice from your independent agent.

Coverage

Insurance companies differ in their coverage offerings, especially when it comes to what’s automatically included. While some companies include robust coverage packages by default, others require that coverage to be specifically added to the policy. For instance, some insurance plans will include replacement cost valuation on your personal property while others will include only actual cash value by default. The difference can mean tens of thousands of dollars out of your pocket. While replacement cost pays you the amount it would cost to replace your property with new, actual cash value pays replacement cost minus depreciation. This can reduce the amount paid for items dramatically.

Service

There are many different levels of service available out there. If you choose to work with one of the online giants, you’ll need to call an 800 number for assistance. You can also work with a local agent, which allows you to speak face to face with an insurance expert, make payments or policy changes in person, and have a local contact in the event of a claim.

Cost

Finally, the cost is an important consideration. Try to keep in mind that with insurance, like most everything else, you often get what you pay for. The lowest cost option may seem like the best option up front but people often regret it when they experience a claim. This is not to say the lowest cost option is always a bad choice. Sometimes it is the best option and other times it may be better to pay a little more up front to work with a company that has a better history of customer satisfaction. Discussing the value of different insurance quotes with an experienced independent agent can save you a lot of frustration down the road.

An independent insurance agent can retrieve quotes from multiple insurance companies and help you decide on the one that best meets your needs.
